Meeting Luna for the first time

Hello there, today we want to share a special moment for us as a family. When Luna was born, it was the most chaotic and special time. Luna and Isaac not only are sister and brother but also share a special day. Yes, they do share the same birthday. Since Luna was born prematurely, Isaac never gets to meet her until she was 5 months old and let me tell you how this went.

When Luna was super sick, they give us the opportunity to stay at Ronald Mcdonal house, to be able to stay closer to her and any type of emergency we can arrived in less than 15 min. Luna got transfer to CHOC from Pomona Valley hospital in August. It was more complicated to get to Luna living an hour away, so it was a blessing to stay more closer to her and at the same time Isaac was able to stay with us over the weekend.

When Luna starts to be more stable one the nurses came to me and told me that the hospital start accepting another person beside mom and dad to stay with Luna during the day. As soon as she steps out of the room, I did call Marco and share the news with him. We had the conversation that the most important thing we can do it was to bring Isaac and have that moment as a family that we need it so much. Isaac had a really hard time, because we missed his birthday, we came back home without his sister and just to understand everything it was hard for him. So, we make the decision to try to get Isaac at CHOC to be able to meet Luna.

The next day I did request more information about it and mentioned to the charge nurse that we would love to bring big brother to meet Luna. They give a paper to request the hospital to make this happen. It took us 5 days to find out that her was able to come and spent some time with her. For the weekend, we took Isaac, and we stay at the Ronald Mcdonald house. The day arrived and it was time to take Isaac to the hospital, we woke up and we get ready, in our way we told Isaac that we have a big surprise for him, He got really excited when we get to CHOC he was a little disappointed and said, let me guess, we will drop of mami and then after I will get my surprise. Marco and I look at each other and we told Isaac this is your surprise; you will meet your sister today. He immediately looked at us and he start crying. As we get closer, I started recording his reaction and let me tell you it was priceless.

I would never forget the way he looked at her, the way he touches her, the way he calms her and the connection that they have. Just to have the time to spend as a family of four in a private way it was the most beautiful thing that could have in the moment. We are forever grateful for our nurses and staff that made this possible. I still cried when I looked back the pictures and videos. It took us 5 months to be able to be together in a room just the 4 of us. It not only helps Isaac to believe that he is now a big brother but also to be able to understand that Luna needed it a little bit more time to grow and get healthier to be able to come home.

In the time for Marco and I was really overwhelmed with Isaac, it was hard for him, from being the only child to be a big brother, not meet her sister right away, new school year and sometimes both of us just being away due to Luna's situation. Sometimes, I feel like a fail to both of my kids, from not give Isaac the attention and time and Luna for not be able to hold her longer enough to prevent all this. I get that a lot in my mind and is just hard. After all, the most important thing is that now we all together.

Thank you for reading :)
